Young Star Musical Theatre (YSMT) was the creation of Barbara Cookman Shmaine's  mom when Shmaine was just a young child herself. Shmaine restarted the group in 2001 with a small production of Annie and it has grown tremendously since then. Children from all over the Prescott, AZ Tri-city area have been exposed to live theatre through YSMT. Either as actors in the show or seeing one of the productions. Many of the shows produced have school show days where local public schools get to see the full production at a fraction of the cost. We are dedicated to teaching children and youth up to 18 years of age a love of theatre and all that encompasses: singing, dancing, acting, set design and building, and team work.

   YSMT has won many awards from National Youth Theatre Awards including : Outstanding Ensemble and Direction for Peter Pan.

Also many YSMT children have gone on and been successful in High School and College Productions.

Wizard of OZ, Guys and Dolls, Annie, Music Man, High School Musical, Peter Pan, Cinderella out West, several Broadway camps, and a full Broadway review including songs from Oliver, Sound of Music, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to name a few.
